- Think-Pair-Shares
This is a tried and true instructional strategy that allows all students to share the cognitive work load. The teacher poses a higher order thinking question and students "turn and talk" to engage in academic discussion. It's an alternative to the traditional "raise your hand" to answer method. By thinking through together, students all get a chance to share what's on their mind and they may even deepen their understanding with new ideas from a peer. During think-pair-share opportunities, students are given a set time frame (sometimes as little as 30 seconds all the way to several minutes, depending on the prompt). Below, you will find some creative spins to try in your classroom. Thanks, Ellie, for sharing this resource!
