"Big 8" for Student Engagement

In the classroom, student engagement refers to your students' attention and interest in your lesson. Engaged students are generally curious, motivated, and "into" their work. Increasing student engagement correlates directly with student performance and (as an added bonus) can create a classroom community that values learning and celebrates academic success. Achieving increased student engagement is like "leveling up" for a teacher.

So, you have your classroom routines down, your behaviors are under control, you are moving through your curriculum with fidelity. Congratulations! You are well on your way to a successful year, but are you ready to LEVEL UP and focus on increasing your student engagement? Check out the chart below to consider what you are already doing successfully to engage your students, what you would like to improve or implement, and please reach out if you need someone to brainstorm with!

In the coming weeks #ontheblog, I will dive into these 8 specific engagement skills, taken from "Help Teachers Engage Students" by Brinkman, Forlini, & Williams. My goal is to provide you with detailed information for each skill, to include examples and practical application ideas.
