Have you ever considered how the mindset that you bring to school determines the trajectory of your day? It's really the only thing you can rely on to ensure that your sanity is in tact when that bell rings at 3:05 because external variables cannot be trusted. Your students are wild cards, Mars is in constant retrograde, and there's no way to tell what kind of curveballs will be thrown at you at any given moment. The only one thing you truly have control over is YOU.
Be intentional about your mindset:
- proactive
- positive
- productive
- confident
🧠Proactive:
Come prepared to make the best of each day.
Have a plan AND a black up plan.
Anticipate challenges and mentally prepare for how you will handle them.
🧠Positive:
Everything's not always rainbows and puppies, but understand that it will be OK.
Nothing is unmanageable.
Look for small victories when the big ones are difficult to see. Celebrate them.
Enjoy what you're teaching and if you don't enjoy it, turn it into something enjoyable.
🧠Productive:
Show up to WORK and expect the same of your students.
Set objectives and goals, with the intention of reaching them.
Every instructional minute counts.
There should be a sense of urgency to stay on track.
Use your planning time wisely so you can protect your personal time.
🧠Confident:
Be a leader and use your power for GOOD.
Trust the instructional process and believe in what you are doing.
Maintain control of your classroom with a level head. You are a professional and you've got this!
In summary, YOU are the most important part of the difference between a "good" day and a "bad" day. Mentally, make it a good one 😉
