"Stronger and Clearer Each Time" is one of 8 Math Language Routines (MLR) designed to support in-the-moment teacher, peer, and self assessment in order to develop student language to better organize thoughts and communicate ideas. MLR were created for math but can absolutely be used across all subject areas. During "Stronger and Clearer Each Time", the teacher presents students with a discussion-worthy question or prompt. Students individual draft an initial response, then engage in several quick/structured discussion opportunities with peers. To wrap up, students write a second draft that should naturally include refinement of their initial ideas. This MLR is best leveraged when incorporated into a lesson activity when students are mostly likely exploring and discussing new ideas.
